About New Roots

A national nature-based learning and personal development academy built around experience, capability and contribution

What New Roots is

An ecosystem for becoming

New Roots is a nature-based learning enterprise for children, young people, adults, families, schools, communities and organisations. It brings together nature connection, personal development, practical life skills, wellbeing, self-sustainability, education, leadership and pathways toward livelihoods.

It is not a conventional school, a retreat directory or a collection of unrelated camps. The fifteen programmes form one connected ecosystem in which experience becomes reflection, reflection becomes learning, learning becomes capability and capability becomes contribution.

The core question

What if learning how to live was something we actually taught?

New Roots exists to create the conditions for people to become more grounded, more capable, more connected and more able to choose and contribute. Nature is part of the learning environment, not a decorative backdrop.

Participants do not only talk about confidence, communication, leadership, food, money, relationships, purpose or sustainability. They practise, make, solve, reflect and leave with something they can use beyond the programme.

Remember and rewrite

Keep the wisdom Question the pattern Change what harms

We inherit blueprints before we learn how to draw our own. New Roots respects valuable old ways without romanticising everything from the past. It remembers what was wise, questions what was harmful, combines useful traditional knowledge with modern knowledge and consciously decides what should be passed forward.

The method is practical: Remember → Question → Rewrite → Rebuild → Pass forward. The aim is not to reject where we come from. It is to stop passing pain, helplessness or unsustainable ways of living to the next generation.

Self-sustainability

Build a life that can sustain you

Self-sustainability includes food, water, shelter and home, personal capability, financial sustainability, environmental responsibility and community resilience.

New Roots teaches food growing, gardening, composting, water awareness, making, repairing, reuse, outdoor capability, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, green skills and community stewardship. We do not only teach people how to survive the world. We help them participate in creating a life that can sustain them.

What New Roots is not

Support without false promises

New Roots does not promise to fix people, glorify trauma or label participants as broken. It does not replace qualified medical, psychological or therapeutic care.

The academy offers structured experiences, honest reflection, practical learning and clear pathways. Facilitators work within their competence, protect professional scope and refer participants when needs fall outside the programme.
